Time Management

This week my task was to finish off blog posts, which I have now completed. Because of this my group can now start filming our music video. As a group we all sat down together and worked out which days we were all free, from this we have decided to meet up on the 5th of November which is a thursday. If this goes according to plan then we shall be filming the outdoors part of our music video.

Time Management

So far this week I have managed to keep up to date with all the set tasks. Because of this, this week I have completed: Storyboarding, costumes, props, make up, performers, casting, locations, risk assessment, choreography, audience theory and narrative theory.

At the moment, the class as a whole is a week behind schedule, by next lesson I hope to have finished all of the planning for the music video and actually start filming.

Final cast

Out of our maybe cast members, we chose that I would be the only person seen in our music video, as  its going to be mostly performanced ased and it stereotypical for our music genre to only star one person in the music video with direct address telling the story with the lyrics.

Final location

This is our final location. We were going to go film it at the beach but due to the weather problem we chose to film in a local first instead. This still gave off the right mood and feel for our song.

Final costume

Final costume:
Outdoors-
We chose the legging, scarf and coat as there are stereotypical things for a teen girl to wear. The colour connote the innocent of the typical teen girl.

 Indoors
This outfit is the same as the outdoor outfit as its stereotypical outfit for a teenage girl of this sub-genre to wear there is likely to attract them.

Costumes and props

Outift- We chose to copy the fashion of a 'Autumn tumblr girl', This is because it symbolises the innocence behind our teenage cast and gives of the cold winter feeling as we were filming outside.

We tried to follow this as much as we could. With the legging and big jumpers/coats with a scarf. This is stereotypical for how our target audience of our genre would wear, therefore would attract them to the music video.

Hair: We thought the best hair style would be a loose messy bun or long wavy hair. As these are typical teen girl hairstyle to portray that our person in our music video is an everyday girl so that the audience can relate and understand her.

Props- We wouldn't use props as such in our music video! We may use thing like nature to portray different props like the use of a thorn bush to connote how nature can be dangerous symbolises so can a teenage sweet girl. Also we may use trees etc to walk around and sit on etc.

Casting

Alice
Alice would be a good model as she looks the right age and portrays the right image of a natural girl who's innocent. She has very long hair and hazel eyes which makes her attractive so would appeal to the male audience and also would connote the typical teen falling in love.

Kate (me)
I would be a potential model as I am very dramatic with my facial feature which is a key feature to make a successful music video, I can tell a story with just my face, As well as i look grown up and innocent enough to be a typical teen falling in love. I contrast well as i give off a grunge teen feel but also a sweet innocent love sick teen.

Anna
The main reason I picked anna is she very good as portraying the "vintage" look, this is the sort of image i would like to portray in our music video. She has the face and body to pull off a long flowing white dress and look innocent and dramatically. Also she's very attractive so would attract the opposite sex.

Liam
Liam would be a potential make model as he has the stereotypical teen boy look and mood to him. He would also attract the opposite text, his masculinity would convey the stereotypical boy and girl love story we are trying to portray.

Lewis
I have chosen lewis for very similar reason for choosing Liam as he would attract the opposite text and gives off the right stereotypical teen boy who would be in a stereotypical love story. But also lewis has tattoos down his arm as this would connote a bad boy side to him which conveys the typical bad boy pop girls seem to go for.

Locations

Beach
The beach would be a good location for our music video as it symbolises nature which is what we want our artist to portray as, a natural down to earth girl. Also the use of beach tends to connote love and love sotrys as the beach can be seen as a very romantic place. Aswell we could play with the waves and how the waves being uncalm could illustrate (As said in good wins theory) how the lyrics are telling us she also isn't calm.

Forest
The Forest is used a lot in girl pop videos. As it connotes nature and nature symbolises beauty which is what teen pop girl are stereotypical seen as. Forests are stereotypical used for love scenes and again are seen as a romantic location.

 Streets
Pop music videos also sometimes can be natural in the way of the location is somewhere where they'd be walking anyway so its almost like the music video is just there realise life and that there living in a musical.  Also this would amplify (created in Goodwin;s theory) the meaning of how she's had enough of everyday life.

Plain background
The most stereotypical background for the genre pop is a green screen with a plain white background. This is to symbolise the innocent and makes you really think and feel what the artist is saying and means and it makes the artist the only focus.

Time Management

This week the main focus in class has been focusing on the narrative arc in our music videos, although we are making ours mostly performance based.
Overall I achieved my goals on the blog post I wanted to have completed that I set last week, these include: Generating ideas using lyrics, audience profile, institutions research and the extension task.
Although I am behind on my storyboarding.
This week I hope to have completed by next week: Storyboarding.

Story in our Music Video

Some music video don't use the 5 section narrative arc and some our performance based. Some have a story behind its lyrics and have it as the artist is using there star appeal and telling there stories. Sometimes they do add narrative clips to thicken the meaning of there story.

For example Gabrielle Aplin's "Panic Chord"is mostly performance based. Is her telling her story by using close up and clips of her singing her stories. Her story is how she broke up with a guy as she panicked that they were getting to serious and now she double thinking her actions. She has narrative clips of flash backs of her and her boyfriend to explain, the lyrics match the visuals (Andrew Goodwin's theory).

We have chosen that our is going to be mostly performance based. Our story is all about how she's in a troubled relationship but she doesn't want it to end so its just keep carrying on. We are going to have our star singing the lyrics with little clips of narrative just to describe the story even more. This is stereotypical for a music video in our genre to be mostly performance based therefore will attract our target audience.

Narrative arc- Taylor swift "Black Space"

Exposition:
At the beginning it's all about her meeting a charming a new guy and making them fall in love.
Mise en scene- She is wearing a black dress, this symbolises two different things. One being her female affection side showing why this guy would find her attractive and the second being the colour black symbolises that she's danger. Also she's is always wearing red lipstick showing her danger but passionate self.

Rising action:
The rising action in this music video is wear there relationship is going well and there doing cute relationship activities, there both happy in there relationship.
Taylors outfits become more colourful and brighter showing it's all well and she's portrayed as a normal bright innocent girl.
There is also a notion of looking through her eyes(Andrew Goodwin)

Climate:
Then she finds out he's also texting someone else, therefore she feels betrayed and loosing her temper. She turns into some crazy girl and in this she goes back to wearing red clothes, showing her anger and danger ahead.

Falling action:
Then she turns crazy and upset, she turns into a mad girl who can't control herself and starts cutting all his things up.
This is stereotypically what pop teen girls do when they get heart broken from a boy, therefore they can relate to it.
Mise en scene: She's goes back to wearing black to show danger of her but has a white background to show really she's a innocent girl who doesn't mean harm.

Denouement:
At the end it shows a new guy turning up at her house exactly like the beginning but a new boy. This is showing that her love life is a vicious cycle that keeps repeating itself.
Again this is stereotypically what happens in a teen girls love life so they'd feel like they can relate therefore liking the music video.
Ends with a close up of her face, as if she knows about it all but she almost enjoys it all in a weird way. Again with the red lipstick portraying this one is going to be like the last and be passionate but theres danger ahead.

This shows that the music video follows the narrative arm as it has 5 section. The story also goes along with the lyrics, and the tittle "blank space" is talking about her having a pace in her heart which is blank which she's always trying to fill it over and over again.

Generating Ideas Using Lyrics

We decided that our song didn't have 5 sections of narrative in it. Our song is all about stressing a situation she in in at that moment of her life. It repeats the same lyrics over again, this is stereotypical for our genre. We decided from what the lyrics suggest we are going to make our music video illustrate (as found in Godwins theory) the meaning.

Our music video will show that her relationship no longer has a spark, she feels alone. Yet she hasn't had enough and doesn't want it to end and the relationship is just keep on going in a continuous circle. We will illustrate (Godwins theory) this story throughout our music video using visuals.

Black and white version so its clearer to read:

Time Management

This week we came up with ideas for our music videos as we spent lesson time this week working on a music video pitch together  so now we have a rough outline of what we want in the music video. Also after doing our conventions of the indie genre we found out that its stereotypical for music videos in that genre to be more performance based, therefore ours will be mostly performance based. This week I also completed the following blog posts: Creativity, Redundancy and Entropy and Music video pitch.

By next lesson I hope to have completed: Generating ideas using lyrics, audience profile, intuitions.
